We're home.  It's been vacay time and our little family escaped to Kelowna for a good two and a half weeks.  It was such a good holiday, and I'll share more later, but not today.  With a full day of traveling and a very busy day of unpacking and organizing the mountain of stuff that spilled out of our van, we've been in need of some time to return to normal.  In the midst of the first day of unpacking the mess was abandoned and Avery and I headed out in the yard to inspect the garden and see what we could find growing.

I think we made it home just in time to catch the first crop of ripe raspberries off our straggly patch in the back corner of our yard.  We have some pretty self-sufficient bushes back there that are giving us berries despite never being watered and only getting partial sunlight.  Avery was a great harvester, being gentle enough not to squeeze that many, and not keeping too many for her cheeks either.

Otherwise, our garden has made some good progress while we were away.  Weeds are definitely growing, and the job is enormous enough to spread it out over a few days, but it's also a little easy since they've grown taller than the vegetables at this point.  Tomatoes have little green babies, and both our zucchini patches are showing some life.  Our potatoes are enormous and I'm sure we could dig up some little baby spuds by now.

Last night for supper we enjoyed the first pick-and-eat of the season as I filled my colander with long green beans, teensy little carrots, and sugar snap peas for a stir-fry.  Had to do it in blitz mode since the skeetos were out with a vengeance, ticked off that we'd hidden our fat arms from them for so long.  Welcome home to us.
