twinsies

{ Avery Melita, November 2009 }
{ Evelyn May, February 2011 }

Almost a year ago, my dear friend Katie had a baby girl.  Some time after that happy news I picked out a little something from Avery's closet to share with sweet baby Evelyn when she had grown enough to fit into it.  Pink and brown stripes pretty well screams Katie Brown, and by default, Evy May.  Isn't she just the most darling little girl?

Avery and I are sharing a big sketchbook these days.  She makes the requests - "ballerina", "tinkerbell", "mommy-daddy-avery" - and I give her pictures to cover with colour.  Once in a while I can't resist making a picture just for me to colour.  I have been very good in learning to share, after all.
The latest masterpieces painted by Avery and Ava hang on our basement door.  An ever-changing art gallery!  It's interesting to watch the differences in how the two little girls do their art.  Ava is very precise and careful, keeps her colours looking bright and clear, and has a good grasp of beginner's detail already.  And Avery ... well ...

... Avery likes making mud.  She's discovered the fun of getting into it up to the elbows and there's no stopping her now.

hello friends

Happy long weekend!!  The luckier Canadians are celebrating Family Day tomorrow, which gives my darling husband a day off work, which he can spend with us two, which is truly something to look forward to, no?

{a pretty great daddy-built snow castle}

Winter, I am getting tired of you.  You are long and cold, keep us inside our walls much too often, and look very much the same day to day.  White on white on grey.  You were very kind to let up a bit for a few days last week, to give us a taste of Spring with warm sun and lighter breezes.  The icicles thawed and dripped and fell.  The snow relaxed.  It was good to be outside.

It's too cold again to brave bare toddler fingers in snow (which is inevitable), frozen legs in wet pants, wind bitten cheeks ... and I'm breathing deep and hoping for Spring to come and stay soon.

Hugs and kisses from Avery!  Happy Valentine's Day!

Levi and I celebrated Valentine's Day over the weekend with 6 hours all to ourselves.  Two of our friends from the college came over to take care of Avery, share a pizza and a movie with her, and tuck her into bed so we could leave these walls and go out on a date!  Even though our destination wasn't all that exciting, it was still such a treat.  We headed to Kindersley for a little shopping, a dinner date where we received the most ginormous plates of food, and a movie at the theatre (True Grit).  It isn't often that we get to date these days, and I enjoyed every minute of uninterrupted time with my honey!

happy things

:: Minus 30 celsius weather, frosted tree branches, sparkly window decorations and beautiful sunshine ... all very enjoyable from inside where my lungs are spared.  [Update: -52 celsius with wind chill!!]
 :: Learning how to knit in the round and use double pointed needles.  Both something I'd feared, and both not as hard as it seemed with a little help from youtube.

:: Avery's continued excitement over her own knitting projects, which morphs into a bowl of saucy spaghetti, which then becomes an unruly skipping rope (for a girl who hasn't learned how to skip).
 :: Feeling festive.
:: One very sleepy girl at lunch time today.  She was bone tired after three days of refusing a nap and a really disruptive sleep last night.  The house was quiet for 2.5 hours.
