shop shellbell

I've been working away over the past couple months and today I clicked the button to "open up shop" on my first ever online store!
I've focused primarily on little dollies for now, along with a handful of other items, and have my lists going for what's to come next.  Maybe some little buddy boy dolls, maybe some more play kitchen goodies, more dollies, bags, purses, etc.  I'm fully aware that this little shop might stay as stocked as the day it started, or that it might clean out quicker than I can keep it filled.  Either way, I'm so pleased to have done what I set out to do - Open Up Shop!  You can find me on etsy here:

Come have a look around!  For friends and family, I'm also receptive to inquiries about custom made items or special orders for multiple items.  I might not be able, but you can always ask!  Also, if you're one of my local friends looking to pick something from my shop, feel free to message me about setting up a special listing that reflects $0 shipping and we can arrange pick-up or delivery instead.

thanksgiving

This year my family had Thanksgiving dinner in the park.  Mom brought warmed and sliced turkey, buns and gravy.  My sisters and I brought sandwich fixins, a few different salads, veggies and cheeses and pickles, wild rice casserole, pear ciders, sparkling juice, pumpkin pie, pumpkin bars, and chocolate almond caramel bark.  A thanksgiving picnic in the great outdoors!  It was a little chilly and a little windy, but the cousins had the wide open air to be boisterous and energetic in and the food crumbs could be swept off the table.
Us adults kept migrating further along the park to stay in the warm sunbeams while the kids ran free in the playground, making up their own games and getting into trouble.  Both Levi and Ella sadly had to miss out on the picnic day.  They were kept at home with coughs and colds that seemed too rough to let them out to play.
With Levi's family we enjoyed a perfect, relaxing holiday together on Sunday.  Some came home, and some were missed.  The girls got their fill of Uncle Ian time and received fun goodies from Auntie Rhonda who couldn't make it out.  We skyped with Papa in Korea and then picked up Oma to come join us for the evening's feast.  We enjoyed a delicious dinner together - the perfect turkey, mashed yams, french green beans, mandarin salad, apple stuffing, wine, pumpkin pie and more.  At one point in the afternoon I even found myself time to sit upstairs in the quiet with a good book.  Ella was napping and the guys were downstairs with Avery and it was too perfect an opportunity to ignore.  It was a good weekend for pausing regular routine, hanging out together, going for walks, and playing games in the evening.  Lovely holiday!  I'm so thankful for our two big families!

hello october

Hello October.  I love when you finally come around.
The girl is wearing cords and boots,
the baby's wearing orange.
 We go walking,
looking for color,
 finding treasures,
 observing,
learning,
collecting.
It's not hard to feel pretty thankful.

new trails

We've been exploring lately, using up the last days of warm weather to check out some of the different areas around town.  We're discovering new parks and trails and little hideaways that we've never yet seen, despite both of us having grown up here.
This is what Avery does if I ask her to "stand right here and smile".  Thanks Avery.
This is what Ella does when she's left alone in the woods for a minute and then returned to full protection.  Isn't our baby getting big?  She's going to be one year next month!
In other news, things have changed around here just a bit.  We just wouldn't be 'us' if big curveballs weren't thrown our way and opportunities provided to us that require quick decision making.  Levi has been offered a full-time job here in town to work 'behind the scenes' in the office of a friend of ours who's a mortgage broker.  It's a full 180 from the route we were currently working on for him to get his education degree, but we felt it was a good decision considering it provides some financial stability for a while and maybe even a chance to catch up a bit.  After a lot of discussion and seeking input from family, he withdrew from college on the last day to drop with full refund.  While it felt weird to put that step into motion, it's a relief to not be looking at 4 years of being utterly tanked financially and having to each work several jobs just to get by.  We're feeling hopeful!
 Onward and upward!

little things

:: Change is in the air.  The leaves are starting to turn colour, it's crisp and cool in the evenings and mornings are perfect for sweaters.  It smells like fall is coming and I love it.  This September feels pretty weird for us and there has been a lot to process and evaluate as we figure out how we'll be doing life, but there's really good things afoot and there's a lot to be excited for!
:: She makes fairy tea parties with little bits of leaves and petals and twigs.  She's a girl after my 18-year old self's heart.
:: Sometimes I look about at all the puzzles and games left unplayed, the tea set and play food abandoned, the cabbage patch dolls and stroller sitting still and marvel at just how happily entertained Avery can be just wandering about with a couple small dolls or animals in her hands, quietly acting out their conversations and dramatizing their imagined lives.
:: The girls and I have started to go to Strong Start (a free drop-in early learning program offered in a bunch of the local schools) along with my sister-in-law Karen and nephew Cole.  It's a great opportunity for Avery to get used to the idea of following someone else's instructions and set schedule before she hits Kindergarten next year.  We made the choice not to enroll her in preschool and I'm feeling really good about the alternative options we have available to us - swim lessons in October and Strong Start as much or as little as we want, drop-in gymnastics, sunday school, dance, library days, etc.
:: Made my favourite fall cookies today, soft and smooth and loaded with spices, chocolate chips and raisins.
:: This little beetle makes it impossible to get anything done when she's on the loose.  She's crawling like mad, will walk with our hands for support any chance we give her, stands and reaches and grabs and goes.  She's impossibly drawn to cords and sharp edges, the basket of shoes to chew on, the stairwell that is unavoidably wide open.  Her little gums are sprouting new pearls and it's been more agonizing than ever this time around.
:: But oh is she ever a nuzzly little baby.  She loves to get right up close and press her face right into ours.
:: Her first real canvas painting, which she called "a masterpiece" (because they all are).
:: Avery loves to help with laundry.  She likes to unload the washer and make a game of throwing each item, one by one, at me so I can load the dryer.  Nothing like a super eager helper to slow a simple job down to a snail's pace.  This is her trying on Levi's jeans, after which she said "I'm so handsome".
:: That baby doll doesn't seem to be very far from Ella most days.  She's gotten pretty attached to her bald little friend and her soothing rubber limbs for itchy gums.  Ella's also shown a pretty strong attachment for a bedtime cuddly - a floppy, pink bunny that is basically a head with a tiny blanket body that's knotted on three corners.  Definitely not the cuddly sort of choice, but she's hooked.  So much for the twenty-dollar adorable teddy we chose - she had an allergic reaction to it and never forgave it.

first wheels

Avery got her first little bike this weekend.  It was supposed to be a birthday gift, but we totally forgot about it on it's intended reveal day.  I'm sure that's not the last time we'll do that.  She was so pleased and very excited to have her very own little bike.  Up and down the sidewalk we went for a good long while until she got the hang of pedalling and steering.  Her little legs were noodles by the end of the day, but she went to bed one very proud and satisfied girl.

sisters

It is so much fun to see how these two are starting to interact with each other.  Ella's figured out crawling and is raring to walk if only her tiny feet would cooperate with her.  She wants to chase after that big sister!  Avery adores Ella and loves to get right up close, squish her cheeks, make her giggle, and lets E push her around like she's a circus strong-baby.

Just had to share a quick video from tonight of our rascally little girls!  Love these little ones!  (Those with aged ears may not register the high level of squealing going on in this video.)
