first birthday

Last week we celebrated Ella's first birthday with a simple little party at home with just us, her Nana and her Gramma.  She was a happy little clam all day as we went to preschool in the morning and had a quiet play day at home in the afternoon.  Supper was a roast chicken and sautéed french beans and red potatoes - not necessarily Ella's choice, but she'll eat pretty near anything we give her.
Her eyes grew wide at the one little birthday candle.  Avery and I baked a simple strawberry cake in the afternoon - perfect for a simple first birthday.  No frosting thank you.
She devoured her slice of cake and patiently worked at her scoop of ice cream with her little fingers until it was time to lick the plate clean.
She was treated to a few new goodies - dollies and books and fun new bath toys, a great big teddy bear and a new backpack carrier that we can use to take her on walks and hikes (a second hand score found by Nana).  All around a happy first birthday for our sweet girly.

  2. Happy birthday Ella! (That second picture capturing her awe at the candle is perfection.)
