{ plotting and planning }
We spent pretty close to the entire day outside today. In the morning, Avery and I walked over to the park to join the moms and kids group that meets there in the summer. The mosquitoes are back and they were swarming with a vengeance, attacking in groups of ten. We had lunch in our screen porch with Levi, then I sat outside and measured and diagramed our garden for plans while Avery had her nap. Once she was up, we were right back outside with sidewalk chalk, bubbles, and her watering can in tow.

So into watering, she filled her little watering can from the bucket over and over. She watered the roses and the stepping stones and the grass, then her boots, her pants, and her shirt (saying she needed a bath).

After supper was had and Avery was tucked into bed, Levi and I headed back out to dig our holes and plant our seeds. Tall gumboots, long pants, long-sleeved sweaters with hoods tied around our faces, gloves on ... it was us vs. the mosquitoes. It's going to be a tough summer again.
{ first growth }
In our garden this year :: greencrop bush beans, red pontiac potatoes, grand rapids leaf lettuce, champion moss curled parsley, scarlet nantes carrots, nebula carrots, imperator long carrots, multiplier onions, sugar sprint peas, long standing bloomsdale spinach, early girl tomatoes, dark green zucchini, gold rush zucchini, purple top swede rutabaga, improved long green cucumbers, rhubarb, and strawberries.
Rough fingers and feet ... tired back ... hungry belly. This calls for a good soak, some chocolate cheesecake and a secret-indulgence kind of show.

Surely you chose the "grand rapids leaf lettuce" in honor of your friends, the Hands. ;)
ReplyDeleteWell done! Sounds like quite a day!!
